Due to modern operation techniques, hair transplantation has become a successful treatment method for both men and women. However, the type of the hair loss must be appropriate for an operation and the patient must have realistic expectations about the result.
Hair transplantation can be performed in every age group. There are some certain factors needs to be taken into consideration like hair density, scalp elasticity, hair loss type, hair colour, curly or straight. The right technique for you will be decided by your doctor in a consultation. If you are a good candidate for a hair transplantation it is our responsibility to give you the most natural look. There will be no difference between your own hair and and the transplanted hair. The hair transplanted will be healthy and natural.
If you hair loss bothers you and if the doctors in Hattat decided that you are a suitable candidate for the operation it is the right time for you to get an operation appointment.
How to get my hair back?
What is a follicular unit?
A follicular unit is a naturally occurring grouping of one, two, or three (and sometimes, four) hair follicles found in the skin. It is distinguishable only under a three-dimensional microscope.
Where is the source of transplanted hair units and how are they obtained?
In FUT method, the follicular units to be transplanted are extracted from the hairy scalp between the two ears in the shape of a thin strip. This method is called follicular unit transplantation. At Hattat, each follicular unit to be transplanted is dissected under the microscope with great care and is prepared for hair restoration. Each unit is a graft which is gets transplanted to its new place.
In FUE technique, on the other hand, hair follicles are obtained one by one using special equipment. In principle, this technique is based on obtaining the hair follicles one by one which allows the extraction of body hairs to be transplanted to the scalp. The advantage of this technique is that it does not leave any scars where hairs are extracted from. The disadvantage is that it requires much more time than FUT technique to obtain the same number of grafts.
In both FUT and FUE, grafts are placed on the scalp using the same technique.
Where and how are grafts used and what is the maximum hair density that is supposed to be or that can be reached?
In the preparation of the transfer channels, needles varying between 19-23 calibres and 0.016 mm width slit blades are used for lateral incisions, which all vary according to the area where the grafts are placed and the structure of the hair. Density is one of the most important topics in hair restoration and it has a relation with the highest growth rate. A successful hair restoration operation is possible only with a specialist doctor that can combine both of them. For the time being, we are able to transplant 40-90 follicular units (which make 150 hairs) per square centimeter depending on the donor area density.
Hair Loss Treatment in Women
Hair loss in women is usually seen as the thinning of hair. The appearance of the pattern is quite different from men.
While hair loss in men starts with losing most of the frontal hairline, women generally keep this part of their hair. Hair loss is a gradual process in women but it can accelerate during pregnancy or menopause.
The only surgical treatment of androgenetic hair loss in women is hair restoration. Apart from this, it is often advised to apply a solution including Minoxidil to the balding areas.
In androgenetic alopecia seen in women, the quality of the hair and the hairy scalp are of great import. With the essential tests, our dermatologist finalizes the diagnosis and may recommend alternative treatments.
How can hairs be transplanted densely?
Normally, there are 70-100 follicular units per square centimeters (FU/cm²) in scalp. According to the results of scientific studies, hair loss becomes noticeable when hair density decreases by 50%. This may also be termed as "felt density",which is different from mathematical density.
"Optic density" is not only dependent upon the growth rate or the curls but the structure of the hair together with the surgeon’s ability to carefully plan follicular unit distribution beforehand.
That is why while some patients need less than 30 follicular units per centimeter for a more natural and denser result, some others need more than 65 follicular units per cm for a natural apperance.
For a natural look, how the channels where follicular units are placed are opened and the instruments used in this procedure are of crucial significance.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Unlike the FUT technique, in this technique hair follicles are extracted directly from the level of follicles on the skin. This technique is known as "non-invasive". In FUE, no scalpels or stiches are used in the donor region and thus no visible scars are left. While extraction techniques are different in FUE and FUT, restoration techniques are identical. Cosmetics wise, the results of both FUE and FUT operations are equally satisfying. The only difference between these two is that one of them leaves scars in the donor region while the other doesn’t.
Thanks to the method we use, we can obtain hair follicles from many body parts. When this method is combined with the standard transplantation techniques, there is an important increase in the number of potential donor regions in the body. The possibility of extracting hair follicles from other body parts increases the number of follicles that can be used in the operation.
